Review
At the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival the film "ROOM" won the People's Choice Award today. It tells a story of a young woman and her five year old son who have been held in captivity in a confined and windowless living space for six years. Brie Larson stars as Ma and her son named Jack is played by Jacob Tremblay who is so believable that you will feel empathetic towards their captivity but relief as to how Ma convinces Jack that their little world is real and is wonderful.
As Jack grows he starts to ask questions about their isolated lifestyle and we the audience anticipate that Ma must try and escape with young Jack but how?
The story draws similarities to the actual events that were Jaycee Lee Dugard's true life story which occurred on June 10, 1991, in South Lake Tahoe, California. Dugard was 11 years old at the time she was abducted from a street while she was walking from home to a school bus stop and she was held captive for the next 18 years in a concealed back yard in a make shift shed. There is also some resemblance to the kidnapping of Amanda Berry who had a child fathered by her kidnapper Ariel Castro. This film was titled Cleveland Abduction and it was released in 2015. It tells the true story of three girls who were held captive for over 10 years by Ariel Castro in his home with no one aware how close the girls were to their own homes and families.
In the film Room the film focuses more on Jack and Ma's adjustment to life outside of their captivity of the room which was their entire world for the past six years. There is a strong supporting cast including performances such as Joan Allen's role as Jack's Grandma and the ever convincing all-star William H Macy as Grandpa. It is a story of fear, hopelessness and hope and most importantly a film about redemption and family bond. I give the film a 9 out of 10 rating.

THE BUZZ: Co-directors Bryan Carberry and J. Clay Tweel have earned serious praise for balancing this story's curious and heartbreaking details with a sense of optimism and humanitarianism, so you can feel better about indulging yourself in the ownership war waged by two truly eccentric men.

Shannon Whisnant purchased a grill at an auction. Inside the grill was an amputated leg. What follows is a story centered on the enterprising Whisnant and John Wood, the man whose leg wound up in the grill due to an odd chain of events.
Review
I can't fault this really stunning documentary.
When the director stumbled across the numerous eccentric characters who made up this film, I'm sure he couldn't have believed his luck.
However instead of ridiculing the characters, he sensitively lets them tell their own stories in their own way.
Make no mistake - the end result will make you laugh out loud, which is why you should watch it in a crowd. However much of the humour comes from the editing rather than cheap shots at the characters' expense, and you will find yourself respecting both them and the director.
You'll also spend much of the movie thinking you are watching a mockumentary, since most of the stars are outstandingly telegenic, and the story - well it's too bizarre to be fiction.
The soundtrack is superb, as are the editing, the direction, the way the clips are woven into a story with a history and an ending, the attention to detail, and even the camera work.
Happy to give up a couple of hours of my time to this movie, and anything else by the same director.

The Buzz: Denis Villeneuve has associated himself with seriously god scripts since he broke through with his own story, the Oscar nominated Incendies. This story, which treads familiar terrain along the U.S./Mexico border, comes from Taylor Sheridan, perhaps best known as Deputy Hale on "Sons of Anarchy," whose other current screenplay is being made by director David Mackenzie. The story and its direction have been described as the best depiction of the inter-country drug trade, and we haven't even begun to talk about the appeal of this cast.

David Oyelowo, a rare Hollywood star who openly talks about his Christian beliefs and how they influence his choices, doesn't normally play the antagonist, so we're most curious about his performance.

Nikhil Advani's romantic-comedy flick with Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut. I just went for Kangana, and I also wondering why she had done this type of film after Queen & TWMR. But, after watching, I have no issues with her and I believe that she had taken a good decision while doing this film. Surprise package is the hero, Imran Khan. No doubt, still he has to do natural acting. But, he is looking charming and perfectly suitable for this role. His chemistry with anyone looks perfect. Kangana and Imran look a suitable couple as per the script. Though, I still believe that in some of the emotional scenes, Imran could have been done better. Time pass love, which becomes a serious one and then one sided love, break-up, then marriage with another - these are the things we can find out in this movie, as those are typical phases inn a romantic comedy. But, above these, you can't miss the emotional climax, who connects you to all the previous phases. Pre-interval part is slow, with some party songs, may be I can say emotionless. Post interval part is somehow comedy, sorrowful, with sad songs and emotional climax. Nikhil has made not an award winning movie, but, yet a good watch with friends, groups & loved ones. Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy have given a good music album. Sarfira is perfect in the theater sound. Kissiyan is a fun to watch, amazingly choreographed. Sau Ansu and Ove Janiya are my favorites and describe the movie very well. Lyrics by Kumaar is cool. The whole hostel scene, including Devdas play, is a great fun. The bike ride to the library is also fine. You can't sit steady without laughing while watching the boat act in marriage. So, on the whole, you will enjoy this for sure. Kangana has always shown something new, you can watch that in the climax. For Imran lovers and haters, go and watch him. Without any expectations, you will get sometimes satisfaction!

We've noticed that Little Miss Sunshine writer Michael Arndt helped with this screenplay ... but he used an alias, Rick Kerb, for his credit. We can't help but wonder what this movie might have been like if J.C. Chandor directed it.

Review
Just recently saw "Black Mass" from director Scott Cooper and I must say that it's a well done and informative look at the life and times of real life Boston criminal Whitey Bulger(played to near perfection by Johnny Depp). The film goes thru three decades starting in the 1970's to showcase the rise and power going up thru the ranks of crime and it's very violent and blunt in the scenes of blood and murder. Yet along the way bad boy Bulger is helped along with his rise to power by being an informant to the police to take down rival street gangs and other Mafia members on other turfs. Slowly but surely South Boston is controlled by Whitey yet the FBI is showcased as corrupt especially agent John Connolly(Joel Edgerton)as he and others look the other way when information about Bulger comes in it's like fear with bribes and payoffs on the side! Overall good film of greed, corruption, violence that tells the rise and fall of one of the most known criminals ever. And thumbs up to Johnny Depp for a kick butt performance.

A man comes along, who feels led to pray for the victim, gets in the car and starts to pray while singing praise songs. The 'dead' man starts singing along and EMT's confirm he now has a pulse. The victim fights his recovery, as he is angry that he was in heaven, only to have God bring him back in incredible pain. Was there a purpose to his return to earth?
Review
Hayden Christensen is Don Piper, a preacher who gets into a vehicle accident and seems dead when he's checked by authorities. Kate Bosworth as his wife Eva, who has to take care of him while he tries to recuperate. I'll stop there and just say this was quite an inspirational true story depicted on screen that I watched with my movie theatre-working friend. We both were very touched by what was happening and the scene where Don tells Eva about his experiences in Heaven was perhaps the most touching of those scenes. My favorite scene has Don's teenage daughter asking him to dance with her despite his struggles with his recovery and he just holds on to her while Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" plays on the soundtrack. So on that note, 90 Minutes in Heaven is highly recommended.

The Buzz: Baltasar Kormakur has established himself as one of the best directors when it comes to character based drama. Personally, we and think his pre-Hollywood movies are better than 2 Guns and Contraband (we have yet to see Inhale) but we feel he's at a point in his career where he can deliver a worldwide box office hit that resonates with its audience.

The Buzz: We caught The Maze Runner after its theatrical run and enjoyed it more than most of its contemporaries; in fact, we are wondering if the story lines might engage us even more than The Hunger Games has as the sequels and potential prequels -- James Dashner has authored two prequels already -- are released. Knowing that there are crazier traps and new creatures to come in the Scorch, and that the third and final installment, The Death Cure, might be set several years after the back-to-back narrative of its predecessors, we're just plain excited for a franchise that feels it's okay to free itself from its source material -- and knows better than to milk fans with a two part finale.

The world's most egg-cellent animated (Huevo Cartoon) series finally cracks the U.S. big screen with UN GALLO CON MUCHOS HUEVOS! Toto, (voiced by Bruno Bichir) was born the runt of the litter. But, when an evil rancher threatens to destroy his home and his family, Toto must go from a timid young "chicken" to a brave and scrappy rooster. Toto and his friends (voices include: Angelica Vale, Maite Perroni, Omar Chaparro, Ninel Conde, Carlos Espejel) must band together on an egg-citing adventure that will prove that big surprises can come from little packages.
Review
A lighthearted animated film about a rooster and his dreams, set in a Mexican ranch full of funny characters, this Mexican movie is very different from a Pixar classic, but the animation is quite good, the storyline is simple and full of references to other classic movies like Rocky, The Godfather, The Karate Kid, I found some parts real funny and there are a couple of musicals, we have seen the same story many other times but I guess the Mexican approach is what makes it different, the voices of the characters are made by very recognizable Mexican actors for the Spanish version, its good for both young and their parents, just don't expect a "Finding Nemo" level.

Storyline
Frank Martin, played by newcomer Ed Skrein, a former special-ops mercenary, is now living a less perilous life - or so he thinks - transporting classified packages for questionable people. When Frank's father (Ray Stevenson) pays him a visit in the south of France, their father-son bonding weekend takes a turn for the worse when Frank is engaged by a cunning femme-fatale, Anna (Loan Chabanol), and her three seductive sidekicks to orchestrate the bank heist of the century. The Buzz: Hitman: Agent 47's abysmal box-office performance doesn't bode well for this action-movie reboot. At least Ed Skrein oozes a similar kind of sexuality as Jason Statham (who has moved on to bigger franchises, thank you very much) and the storyline's woman power might help bring in a new audience. Nice touch with Ray Stevenson playing Frank Sr., too.
